The Crash and Burn of MySpace

It’s official-MySpace is going down for the count.  Reorganizing is the official term:

So what happened?  I can’t really tell you too much since the account I have basically sits there and streams whatever stuff my other social media sites send it.  I don’t like the format at all, which has been a major criticism.  But there’s something more going on.

MySpace became known as the ghetto site, whereas FaceBook has a classier reputation.  People have to behave more on FaceBook.  Less spam, especially X-rated spam.  But more than anything, YOU DON’T HAVE PEOPLE SENDING YOU MESSAGES IN ALL CAPS!!!  There’s a presentation difference.

At the end of the day, people want to be perceived as high-class and moral, regardless of their actual behavior.  There’s an appeal to being virtuous.  You can’t really pretend that’s where you’re holding in an environment like that, and people just get sick of it.  Yes, there are people who insist on being gross, but they drive the rest of us away.

So maybe when MySpace  reorganizes, it will become a bit more higher class….
