Right and wrong seem to be subjective these days. Read different newspapers and find different enemies. Yet there’s a persistent trend: the person or people who take the high ground are the ones who get slammed the most.
Take the Levy Report. It defends Israel’s position that we are not occupiers on our own land, here meaning the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights. Needless to say, the world isn’t happy with this conclusion. Even our own country hasn’t gotten behind it. Unfortunate. That shouldn’t affect our position on it anyway. We should be happy that someone has acknowledged our rights and legitimacy in all parts of Israel.
Pinhas also was taking a stand against the majority. When the Midianite women came to seduce the Jewish men, some Jews went along while most just stood by. He took the unpopular stance and the law into his own hands. He was rewarded with the High Priesthood. He is the model for zealotry and standing up for principles. It’s good to know Israel was able to do it this time too.
